ITS ITS ALLIVEEEE
Jacob’s Ladder is my custom dual-phone Frankenstein rig. It takes two phones that were never meant to be together and fuses them into one single, ultimate daily driver.
On the front, I’ve got the newest budget iPhone (thanks to my dad adding me onto his Costco plan) handling my daily work, texts, and life online. On the back, mounted with magnetic force, is my old Motorola Razr—a phone that was literally sitting in a drawer getting scratched up just a couple weeks ago.
The Moto is loaded up with retro 8-bit pixel themes, animated GIFs that move smoothly, e-readers, comic viewers, retro emulators, and quick games to play while waiting around. Plus, it’s got killer cameras on both sides, and it can even pass a charge over to my main phone when I need a battery boost!
How It Came to Life
It all started when the border piece on my Moto got snagged on my bed and snapped. The screen still worked fine, but I couldn’t stand the thought of just throwing it away or letting it rot in a drawer—I’m big on recycling and keeping tech alive. I had kept some old phone cases my family threw out "just in case," and while scribbling notes and ideas, the concept hit me: a two-phone stuck together acting as one.
I got to cutting up the old cases. I took the magnetic core from one case and mounted it onto a Hello Kitty Moto case. That specific case was crucial because it hugged the Moto gently without stressing the hinge, allowed it to flip open and close smoothly, and left just enough gap for airflow so it doesn't overheat.
I tied some ribbon on it for the final aesthetic flare, and boom—the prototype was done.
This is my screen layout for the Rig
It’s mostly retro 8-bit pixel themes and GIFs— & fuck yeah, they move well while on the Moto! Apple sucks when it comes to customization. Everybody wanted an e-reader small enough to go on the back of your phone—boom, my rig does that. Need to play a small game while you wait ? & Why not on the back? My rig does it all, from comics to Emulators to the perfect Cameras on both! My little rig fucking rocks, man!
I’m so happy with the way it turned out. Two phones: one phone for work and communication to stay online, while the other one does games and dreaded data—and bruh, it even charges my phone for me when I need it to! This is the best thing I’ve come up with !To think just a couple weeks ago this Moto was sitting in a drawer getting scratched up, and now it’s a part of my everyday life.
Two phones never meant to be together formed a ladder for me to climb—hence the name.
Q&A
How do I get the phones to link up?
I use Session—an app available on both Android and iPhone. It’s an end-to-end encrypted, private way of connecting without Big Brother looking into everything. Plus, its cross-compatibility between iOS and Android is a fucking 10/10!
What do the Moto and iPhone each do?
The Moto ("Wheezie"): Packed with tons of RAM and storage that just had to be put to use! It’s loaded with retro emulators—running everything from Game Boy and Nintendo DS to PlayStation and Xbox with high-quality gameplay. It’s also my e-pub book reader, MP3 player, and a secondary camera system.
The iPhone ("Zack"): He’s the serious one. Zack keeps me connected to the web, holds all my notes, handles my phone calls/messages, and runs the entire comms system. It's pure, dumbed-down efficiency.
Why the names Zack & Wheezie?
Just like the two-headed dragon from Dragon Tales! Wheezie (the Moto) is wild, fun, and handles all the media and games, while Zack (the iPhone) is grounded, serious, and keeps me connected to the world. Together, they form Jacob’s Ladder.
